Understanding Insurance for Addiction Treatment

At Aquila Recovery of Virginia, we believe that high-quality addiction treatment should be as accessible as possible.  If you’re exploring working with your insurance for addiction treatment, you’re not alone. Many of our clients have questions about how their health coverage can apply to our recovery service. The Aquila staff can help you make sense of this complicated process.

Is Addiction Treatment Covered by Insurance?

In most cases - yes! Most insurance providers are required to offer coverage for mental health and substance use treatment services. This means you may have many options available depending on your specific plan. We accept most insurance providers, and depending on your plan, being "in-network" means your out-of-pocket cost may be limited to just a co-pay.

In-Network Policies:

  • Virginia Medicaid through Magellan
  • Virginia DMAS
  • Blue Cross Blue Shield (all policies)

Out-of-Network Policies:

If you have an insurance plan that has an "out-of-network" benefit (sometimes referred to as a PPO or an Open Access plan),  your out-of-pocket cost may be higher, but we will work with you to limit your cost. Some of the companies that we work closely with on an out-of-network basis are:

  • Medicare
  • United Healthcare (GEHA)
  • Cigna
  • Aetna (all plans)
